Tuesday, June 02 2009 08:23

The following from the readers choice awards this year.  Reflecting the trend toward more popular CMS's for websites.

(From Linux Journal)

Favorite Content Management System

WordPress (25%)

Honorable Mention

Joomla! (23%)

Drupal (19%)

No surprise that the blog publishing application WordPress once again wins the category Favorite Content Management System with 25% of the vote. In the Honorable Mention department, your same two favorite Web content managers, Joomla! and Drupal, are present only to flip in popularity. This year, Joomla! reached an impressive 23% to Drupal's 19%. Drupal got our vote—LinuxJournal.com runs on it.

Ever wonder what these little chicklets mean?

These are called RSS (Real Simple Syndication) news feeds.  You can use a news reader like Newsgator FeedDemon to subscribe to websites who are offering news feeds for your reader.  So instead of clicking around and looking for specific information you can feed it to your own reader.

For more info click on the pic.  Don't forget to to subscribe to my Blog once you've downloaded your reader. Cool

Back on Biznik PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, May 14 2009 08:43

I'm back after a little winter hiatus buried in a big project.  I've upgraded my account on www.biznik.com and promising to blog more.  I recently saw Steve MacDonald at Whatcom Community College about social media.  Even though I do a lot of social media I always pick up something when hearing someone of this caliber.

One thing that I've been meaning to do and finally got around to is having my blog on my own website.  This is critical for Google ranking because all your blogs don't help your domain if they are one another site like Blogger.  So now  I've attached my blog on my own site and feed it onto my Biznik profile.  This is easily if you use a content management system like Joomla!

Tweekout PDF Print E-mail
Friday, April 24 2009 20:51

This is kinda freaky and I'm not sure at this point what to make of it except that Twitter is starting to index tweets.

So I started a Twitter account a few months ago.  Once I figured out the best way to go about using it which for me was following technology in my particular arena I accidentally came up with a brand new Twitter term.

One day I was going through my normal morning routine...if you can call it a routine at all when I realized that I was working out and "tweeting" at the same time.  I started contemplating what it meant tweeting and working out and came up with tweekout!  I liked it so much I bought the domain name and created a Twitter account for it.

Since then, and here is where it gets interesting, I've had this groundswell of followers (well for me at least).  Withing a week I had more following me than on my other Twitter account.  Maybe searchers are finding it by accident which would make it even more interesting as a marketing aspect.  It seems like I'm onto something.

Next thing.  For some weird reason I decided to Google the word "tweekout".  Well, other than a band in the UK (how many are there anyway?) my personal information about the domain name comes up of course.  What's interesting is that a tweet came up as well.  What this means if you aren't up on the latest SEO info is that Google is now indexing tweets.

It will be interesting to see how Google deals with that as the number of Tweeple skyrockets over the next two years.

Next up...the results of my research on SEO and Twitter....

First Blog on my site PDF Print E-mail

OK, so the day has finally come where I Blog on my own site.  It only took a year to get started but with all the new technology coming out and Twitter who has time?

This one will be short but stay tuned for more.

For today I just put up a link to show how you can use the built in RSS feed component in Joomla to feed your tweets onto your own website.  Check out mine: Tony Sova Twitter

Pretty cool huh?  I am thinking of coming out with a Twitter and Joomla website special.  Low cost for those of you who are do it yourselfers and want to save money.  Once I get the details sorted out then I'll be posting it here on my site.
